Deacon James McCullough was born and raised in West Virginia and is the oldest of two children. He earned a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from Fairmont State College. He currently works full times as a Designer for First Energy Corporation. He and his wife April were married at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah in 1992, and they have two children, Dylan and Anna. They first attended Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 1991 when they were dating and have been active members since 1992.

After completing a three year Lay Ecclesial Ministry Formation Program in 2011, Deacon James was blessed and commissioned on October 29, 2011, by Bishop Michael Bransfield. He completed permanent diaconate formation provided by St. Meinrad’s Seminary in Indiana and was ordained a permanent deacon on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, at the Basilica of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Charleston, WV on June 7, 2024. Deacon James and April have served in various ministries throughout their years at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
